Spine Ring
Custom Jewelry Concept
I designed and 3D modeled a piece of jewelry for a client who loves silver jewelry with organic forms. The model was submitted to Shapeways to be investment cast. Given Shapeways’s strict printing requirements for wall thickness, model size, and interlocking parts, I chose to model two rings connected by interlocking pieces.
The interlocking pieces are shaped to resemble bones but are never intended to be anatomically accurate, matching my client’s preference for jewelry with organic forms.

Appearance and Comfort
The ring was designed to fit my client’s aesthetics while being comfortable. I took multiple measurements from the base to the tip of my friend’s finger. Using finger length and diameter measurements, I modeled two rings with different sizes to fit the base of the finger and the middle phalanx.
The underside of the interlocking spines are flat to reduce discomfort when in contact with the skin.
